Set Of Eight Antique Hoop-back Windsor Style Chairs

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Culvertons

This charming set of eight hoop-backed farmhouse chairs was almost certainly made in the Thames Valley area between 1900 and 1920. Since then, they appear not to have travelled too far as we were invited to purchase them from a private Surrey estate. Each chair carries the initials or stamp of the individual craftsman who worked for the cabinet makers. This, amongst other things, enabled a degree of accountability and quality control. They are in excellent original condition. The fact that there isn''t a loose joint or sign of later repair is remarkable, and a testament to the quality of craftmanship employed at that time. They are a wonderful set of chairs that have been treated with a great deal of respect. We have further enhanced their original surface by giving each chair a good traditional wax. They are now ready to be used and enjoyed for another 100 years. The height of each of the chair''s figured elm seats is 46cm,.
