Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Table cabinets are compact portable storage pieces designed to sit atop desks, sideboards, or tables. Popular throughout the nineteenth century, particularly in Anglo-Indian and European craftsmanship, they were used to secure valuable personal items, documents, specimen collections, or writing materials behind lockable doors.

These small cabinets were typically constructed using fine hardwoods, including exotic timbers like palmwood, ebony, mahogany, and rosewood. Construction methods often featured hand-cut dovetail joints, flush-mounted brass campaign hardware, and decorative line inlays or gilded lacquer detailing.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-finished drawer construction, irregular tool marks, natural oxidisation on brass hinges and handles, and age-related wear to the wood grain. The drawer linings and back panels frequently show signs of hand-planing rather than modern machine sanding.

A table cabinet functions well placed on an office desk, library table, or hallway console. It offers practical small-scale storage for keys, stationery, or jewellery while adding visual weight and historic character to a room.

Keep wooden cabinets away from direct sunlight, central heating vents, and high humidity to prevent timber movement or cracking. Clean surfaces gently with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish sparingly to maintain the wood surface.
