A Fine18th Century Flintlock Turn Off, Box-lock Pocket Pistol. 40 Bore. By J. Robinson, Bootle, Liverpool. birmingham Proof Marks.

The flintlock pistol turn-off barrel engraved with foliage around the muzzle.
 
Signed engraved box-lock action inscribed ‘Bootle’ on a trophy-of-arms oval on the right on one side and on the other ''J Robinson''.
 
Engraved sliding thumb-piece safety-catch also locking the steel, flat-sided walnut butt, and vacant silver escutcheon.
 
Circa 1790.

16.4 cm overall
 
An attached inscribed note reads:-
 
''Robinson. John, 1810-1832
 
Maker of Screw barrel box locks, flintlocks pocket pistols with folding triggers. Shop in Liverpool'' .
