Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An artists horse model, or equine lay figure, is a carved three-dimensional anatomical reference used by painters and sculptors to study horse proportions, movement, and muscle structure. These studio aids were commonly utilised in 19th-century European academies and private workshops.

Historically, these models were hand-carved from dense hardwoods such as beech, oak, or walnut, and occasionally featured internal brass or iron joinery for articulation. The surfaces were treated with natural oil, stain, or wax finishes to protect the timber from studio dust and wear.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of hand-carving, natural timber contraction around joints, and an authentic aged patina resulting from decades of handling. Look for original mounting bases, anatomical carving, and historical joint mechanisms rather than modern machine-made fittings.

This sculptural object operates effectively as a tabletop or mantelpiece accent. Its dark wood tones and dynamic shape complement minimalist backdrops, contemporary shelving units, neutral colour palettes, and traditional study spaces.

Position the item away from direct heat sources, radiators, and high humidity to prevent the wood from cracking or warping. Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply neutral beeswax sparingly to preserve the timber finish.
