18 bore flintlock pistol by Barber of Newark, circa 1785. 15'' overall with an octagonal barrel 9 inches long. The barrel engraved ''Barber Newark'' and with Tower private proofs.
A flat bolted lock with swan neck cock, rainproof pan and roller on frizzen spring. The lock plate engraved ''Barber''.
Walnut fullstock with ''Egg'' type chequered butt, shell carving around the barrel tan. Engraved steel mounts including long spurred butt cap and pineapple finial to trigger guard, vacant oval silver escutcheon. Complete with horn tipped wooden ramrod with worm.
Old fracture to stock, & chip to stock below the tail of the lock, otherwise excellent condition but please look a the photographs for in depth condition. A very pleasing rich walnut coloured stock.
Isaac Barber of Newark, Nottingham was active alone from 1773 until 1804,
Isaac Barber (b1750 - d1828). He was the son of Peter, a gunsmith, and Sarah.
From 1804 he worked in partnership with Joseph Boaler 1804-16 and died in Newark 26th February 1828, age 77 years leaving an estate estimated around £12,000.
