This antique athletics trophy beaker which is made of bovine horn has a fully hallmarked silver rim that dates from 1881 and a silver cartouche to the front.
The oval front cartouche has an interesting inscription that reads:
St Ives Athletic Sports. Presented by Mrs Morrant. Quarter Mile Race. 1st Prize Won By N.H. Marsh.
The silver rim is also nicely marked with the original retailer''s details of W. Thornhill & Co. 144 New Bond Street.
A handsome cup that has a clear base would make a very nice collectible piece for an athletics enthusiast.

Hallmarks: Lion for Sterling Silver. Leopard''s head for London. Date letter F and Victoria''s head for 1881. Maker''s mark TJ for Thomas Johnson II.

Condition: Very good antique condition with signs of use in keeping with age. Some tiny chips and nibbles. The base has a crack.
