A stunning African lost wax brass hunting horn attributed to originate from the Cameroon and dating to the latter 19th or early 20th century. The horn, originating from a private UK collection, is made in heavy cast brass with leaf banding applied around the body and with a cobra snake with a raised head applied to the neck. The horn is of traditional curved shape with a narrow end applied with a triple hanging loop and with a large trumpet shaped opening to the opposite end with a with a fold over flat edge with a beaded rim. An open mouthpiece is cut to the narrow end and a series of decorative loops applied to the underside of the body with two further cord loops applied at either end of the upper body. The horn comes complete with a later purpose made metal display stand and is a wonderful display piece for any interior. The horn is not marked and have shown the dimensions mounted on the stand.
Offered in good condition with signs of aging to the inner horn.
