Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian cylinder music box is an automatic musical instrument developed in the nineteenth century that produces sound by rotating a pinned metal cylinder against the teeth of a tuned steel comb. These mechanisms were typically housed in decorative wooden cabinets crafted from fine veneers such as walnut or rosewood.

The exterior cases were constructed using hardwoods such as walnut, rosewood, or mahogany, frequently decorated with fruitwood or boxwood marquetry inlay and ebonised mouldings. The internal mechanism consists of cast iron or brass beds, steel combs, and brass cylinders.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut dovetail joinery, original patinated brass winding levers and controls, and evidence of historical hand-finishing on the cabinet. The presence of tune sheets affixed to the inner lid, listing contemporary melodies in period typography, also indicates authenticity.

An antique music box can be displayed as a focal accent on a polished sideboard, library desk, or console table. Pairing the rich timber grain with neutral plaster walls, modern lighting, or contemporary glass decor creates an engaging contrast between historical craftsmanship and minimalist design.

Keep the cabinet away from direct sunlight, radiators, and sudden changes in humidity to prevent timber warping or veneer lifting. The wooden exterior should be treated periodically with high-grade beeswax polish, while the mechanical components require occasional professional servicing rather than household lubricants.
