Description

Fine C18th George III Chippendale period mahogany serpentine-front chest of drawers.

Four graduated oak-lined and ‘cock-beaded’ drawers fitted with original brass ‘swan-neck’ drop handles with sophisticated cast ‘milled’ edge detailing to the back-plates ,and having cast ‘milled’ edge detail brass key escutcheons , and fitted original steel locks (no key) . One drawer interior bearing a small numbered paper label from a collection inventory.

Raised on unusual architecturally-inspired carved on all sides fluted bracket feet, having a stepped ogee moulding around the base . The serpentine outline top with a gently moulded profile with rounded edge corners

The underside with all original blocks and finish , the original back-boards having original faded ‘red-wash’ surface .

In excellent original condition throughout with a rich colour and patina. The rear left-hand-side edge of the top has a minor historic shrinkage crack and very minor light wear and dents commensurate with age, use and purpose.

A capacious classical Georgian period serpentine chest-of-drawers of restrained elegance and practical proportions.
