Antique Silver Milk or Cream Jug

1900 - 1920
Description

A good example of an antique Sterling Silver milk or cream jug. It is an excellent quality piece with a very unusual figure-head handle and a mask below the spout. It stands on a round foot with gardrooned decoration and it has a large wide pouring spout with a gilt interior.

It is hallmarked for Chester and the makers George Nathan & Ridley Hayes. The mark is slightly rubbed and it is hard to distinguish the date letter but from the rest of the hallmark and the shape we can narrow it down to circa 1901 - 1915. It weighs approximately 189g.

It is in good condition for its age. There are some faint surface marks and light signs of age and use but nothing detrimental and it displays well. It has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.

Approximate Measurements:

Height : 5" / 13cm

Length inc Handles : 4 1/4" / 11cm

Width : 2 3/4" / 7cm

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
