Rare Early 19th Century English Regency Ebonised & Gilt Side Chair

A rare early 19th century (circa 1830) English Regency ebonised and gilt side chair.
 
This highly decorative chair consists of an curved back rail with ebonised and gilt decoration with carved scroll design leading down to a finely carved foliate and scroll design.
 
The upholstered backrest and seat finished in a red velvet fabric which is in good condition with curved ebonised and gilt seat rails with carved foliate design to the front corners, the back of the chair also upholstered in the red velvet fabric, the curved ebonised and gilt seat rail continuing around the back, seat rail stamped with ‘4861’ and hand painted initials, possibly ‘DW’.
 
The chair is supported by ebonised and gilt turned, carved and tapered reeded legs to the front with carved gilt collar and original castors, the reeded and tapered out swept back legs with finely carved ebonised and gilt stylised leaf decoration to the top.
 
A pair of very similar chairs can be seen in the book ‘BRITISH FURNITURE 1820 to 1920: The Luxury Market’ by Christopher Payne, page 75 - this pair of chairs are very similar in style painted in a white and gilt finish, these chairs thought to have been part of an extensive suite commissioned for Goldsmiths’ Hall, London by Philip Hardwick and made by the cabinet maker ‘William & Charles Wilkinson’.
 
This chair is in very good condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
