Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Animalier movement originated in nineteenth-century France, specialising in the realistic depiction of animals in bronze. Sculptors captured specific breed characteristics, such as the slender anatomy of sight hounds, making these figures popular desktop and mantle ornaments throughout the late Victorian and Art Deco eras.

These sculptures were typically cast in solid bronze or spelter using the lost-wax technique. Once cast, a chemical patina was applied to achieve a dark brown or black surface finish before the figures were securely mounted onto carved marble bases.

Authentic period castings display fine hand-chased anatomical detail, substantial weight, and natural wear to the patina around raised edges. Look for crisp casting lines, original mounting bolts beneath the marble base, and foundry stamps or sculptor signatures near the feet.

Display these sculptures on a timber sideboard, bookshelf, or fireplace mantelpiece to provide visual weight and grounding texture. Pairing metallic dark bronze with natural materials like oak, leather, or linen creates a balanced contrast in contemporary rooms.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, soft microfiber cloth to prevent dirt accumulation. Avoid liquid cleaners or chemical polish, which strip the original patina; instead, apply a light coat of clear microcrystalline wax annually to protect the metal finish.
