We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Oyster veneering is a decorative cabinetmaking technique using thin slices of wood cut crosswise from small branches or saplings, revealing circular growth rings reminiscent of oyster shells. Popularised during the 17th century in England, the method saw revivals in early 20th-century craftsmanship.

These boxes feature laburnum timber veneers cut on the end-grain, which are laid onto a solid wood carcass such as pine or oak. Fine crossbanding using boxwood or sycamore is frequently applied around the border edges for tonal contrast.

Authentic pieces feature unique, irregular circular grain patterns with natural variations across each veneer tile. The joints between individual timber tiles typically show subtle hand-cut marquetry fit and light age-related shrinkage lines.

Position the piece as a tabletop focal point on a desk, console table, or bookshelf to highlight the geometric wood grain. Pair it with brass accents or leather-bound books to complement the deep timber tones.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity to prevent the thin veneer layers from lifting. Apply a light coat of natural beeswax polish annually with a soft cloth to preserve the surface finish.
