Victorian Pietra Dura Floral Mosaic Pendant Necklace, Circa 1880

Description

A wonderful example of a Victorian Pietra Dura. The onyx background is inlaid with semi-precious stones in a form of a stylised bouquet. The main body of the pendent hangs from a stylish reverse 'V' bale.

The surround is crafted in 18k yellow gold and is ornately decorated with fauna and vine motifs

Pierta Dura (which translates to 'hard stone") was a Florentine mosaic technique which flourished in the 16th and 17th centuries. The style was revived in the 19th century.

The chain pictured is not original. Please note in the checkout whether you would prefer a 16" or 18" 18k yellow gold chain. This is included in the price.

Measurements:? Not including the bale (i.e. just the main part), the pendant is 22.8 x 18.8mm.

Weight:? 3.4 grams.

Metal:? 18k gold. Tested with a Niton DXL Precious Metal Analyzer.
