A quirky early 19th century silver and stone set Danish ‘Hovedvansaeg’ – a vinaigrette/spice box, traditionally a betrothal gift. Urn shape with foliate engraving, scroll handles, set with three green stones, on a raised foot which is also the hinged spice compartment (it is also said that this lower compartment was for keeping a coin to put in the church collection), opens to reveal the original silver-gilt interior. Rare collector’s piece.
