This stunning large bronze study depicts the famous sixteenth century French poet Joachim de Ballay who was working in the sixteenth century and died in Paris in 1560.This fine quality bronze study was sculpted by the highly regarded French artist Leofanti Adolphe, circa 1870. It showed the handsome bearded poet standing whilst wearing fine clothes from this medieval period while holding a leather bound book in one hand and another resting at his feet. This lovely bronze sculpture is fully signed and titled on the rectangular base and has a superb mid brown colour with soft gilt highlights, richly patinated and in very good original condition.
