Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French salon chairs originated in the 18th century during the reign of Louis XV, designed specifically for informal social gatherings in private drawing rooms and salons. They were crafted to provide elegant seating that could be easily moved around a room to encourage conversation.

These chairs are traditionally carved from dense, fine-grained walnut timber, which allowed craftsmen to execute intricate relief carvings. The upholstery historically comprised natural horsehair and webbed stuffing covered in woven silks, damasks, or embroidered fabrics.

Authentic pieces feature asymmetrical curved lines, cabriole legs terminating in scroll or whorl feet, and hand-carved motifs such as shells, foliage, or floral sprays on the crest rail and seat apron. Frame construction typically employs hand-cut mortise and tenon joints held with wooden dowels.

A pair of salon chairs can be styled as accent seating in a living room flanking a fireplace, placed opposite a streamlined modern sofa, or positioned in a bedroom corner or hallway. The contrast between ornate carved wood and contemporary minimalist architecture creates an engaging visual balance.

Timber frames should be dusted regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and nourished annually with a high-grade beeswax polish. Fabric upholstery requires gentle vacuuming with a brush attachment and prompt spot-cleaning with appropriate textile cleaners, keeping the chairs away from direct heat sources and harsh sunlight.
