Antique Salt-bag, Baluch Tribes of Torbat-e-heydariyeh, Khorassan Province, North-east Persia.

1900 - 1920
Description

Acquired in Iran, this magnificent salt-bag - 'namakdan' in Persian, where 'namak' translates to 'salt', was woven by Baluch tribes in the environs of Torbat-e-Haydariyeh, Khorassan Province, north-western Persia during the early 20th century.

This is a large salt-bag having an ivory-wool background on both sides and what appears to be an all-over grid pattern containing small 'X' symbols. The border on each face shows a zig-zag pattern all the way round which I suspect symbolises the eternal cycle of life.

Particularly attractive is the brocaded patterning at the top of the neck, which the weaver has gone to great lengths to decorate. The sides are bound in original goat-hair and the bag is in excellent condition.

Size: 56cm x 50cm (1' 10" x 1' 8").

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
