Edwardian Lead Crystal Decanter

1900 - 1920
Description

Dating from the Edwardian period, the bell shaped body of this tall decanter is cut with elongated panels of snowflakes. It stands on a petal and starburst base. The quality of this antique decanter is outstanding.

There is a minute chip to the underside of the base, this is hardly detectable, can only be seen from the underside and in no way detracts from the appearance of this beautiful decanter. Apart from this, the condition is excellent.

A beautiful item to own or a very special gift.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the reign of King Edward VII between 1901 and 1910, Edwardian glassware is characterised by intricate geometric cuts, starburst motifs, and refined proportions that evolved from heavier Victorian designs.

Artisanal glassmakers crafted these vessels using hand-blown lead glass, which permitted deep facet cutting and high light refraction, fitted with ground-glass stoppers specifically shaped for each neck.

Authenticity is indicated by substantial physical weight due to high lead content, hand-cut geometric facets showing micro-variations, and original ground stoppers designed to fit the internal neck precisely.

Position the vessel on a timber sideboard, metallic drinks trolley, or tray alongside clean-lined modern glassware to establish textural contrast between historical cut glass and contemporary elements.

Hand wash the interior with warm water and mild liquid soap, avoiding high temperatures and dishwashers that induce thermal shock or irreversible clouding of the lead crystal.
