Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late nineteenth century, these brackets were designed to fit securely into room corners to support decorative objects such as clocks, statues, or vases. They often feature elaborate relief carvings depicting flora, fauna, or sporting motifs popular during the Victorian era.

Most high-quality Victorian wall brackets were hand-carved from dense hardwoods, primarily English oak or walnut, using gouges and chisels. The construction typically involves a shaped top shelf secured to a deep, sculptural support block designed with integrated mounting points for wall hanging.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved tool marks, natural grain variation, and deep patination within recessed areas of the carving. Original mounting hardware, hand-cut joinery beneath the shelf, and minor age-related shrinkage in the timber also indicate genuine period construction.

Position the bracket in an underutilised corner to add vertical interest and texture to the space. Style it simply with a singular object, such as a ceramic vessel, trailing houseplant, or small sculpture, allowing the intricate timber carving to remain the focal point.

Dust regularly using a soft brush to remove debris from deep carving grooves without scratching the wood. Apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the oak and preserve its historic lustre, avoiding modern chemical sprays or water.
