Description
Most stationery boxes in the genre are larger and more awkward, this is a wonderful and charming smaller size, measuring 12 1/2" wide x 7" deep x 8" tall to top of domed lid. The box retains it's original cast brass carrying handles each side and the original brass escutcheon which houses the original working key. The top also has a silver plated presentation shield, which is engraved "T.H.S.C Won By W. Garner 1897", always lovely to have a dated piece. Once the lid is opened, it allows the writing slope to be folded down, and when fully opened reveals it's original leather writing surface, decorated with a gold embossing. The interior of lid, housing a few old dip pens and a small paper knife, is also lined in leather with the gold embossed design registration number, which again allows us to date it to 1891, when this design would have first been used. There are a various fitted stationery compartments, with original brass topped glass inkwell still intact (one small chip to glass). Beneath the inkwell, there are two drawers to keep stamps, nibs, sealing wax and the like. To the left is the original small Oak framed ceramic slate for notes, next to this is a frame to hold note cards or similar. A fabulous antique writing box, sure to please. Stationery and old letter not included in the sale, pens etc. are included. Item ID: 33085 —————— FREE Worldwide Registered Airmail Directly From London, England
