Silver Pot Pourri Box Mounted with George III 1787 Silver Sixpence - 1900

19th century
Description

A wonderful quality rare and unusual ANTIQUE SILVER POTPOURRI BOX made by the renowned London silversmith, Samuel Jacobs in 1900.

The base of this Sterling Silver Potpourri Box has an embossed or repousse Art Nouveau inspired garland running around its circumference.

The top has a superbly pierced or reticulated floral design and is set to the centre with a rare George III 1787 silver sixpence (see below)

The interior of this delightful Potpourri Box has a light gilt coating. The lid fits well and the hinge is in very good condition. The box is in excellent condition with virtually no wear visible and is free from any added inscriptions, monograms or initials.

This is a high quality rare item made from good gauge silver and would make a superb addition to anyone's collection or a really special gift for someone.

(George III 1787 Silver Sixpence:

The George III Silver 1787 Sixpence was only struck for circulation for just one year, 1787. Rather than The Royal Mint, this coin was in fact struck by The Bank of England to give out to their favoured clients around Christmas, making this Pot Pourri Box incredibly rare and collectable.)

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
