Beautiful Chinese (Canton) Qing (late 19thC) export silver and gilt christening mug made by Wang Hing. Signed on the base in Chinese characters and WH90 (indicates 90% silver). Gold washed interior. 8.7cm high x 9cm diameter, weight 127g.
 
Wang Hing was probably the greatest and finest Chinese export retailer, who started trading in Canton soon after 1842, when, with the end of the First Opium War and the treaty of Nanking China, China opened its ports to foreign merchants and Hong Kong became a British colony.
 
Excellent condition.
