Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Arts and Crafts movement emphasised handcrafted production, simple geometric forms, and natural materials in response to mass industrialisation. During the Edwardian era, this resulted in functional homeware objects featuring clean lines, exposed wood grain, and understated ornamentation.

English oak was the dominant timber due to its durable nature and prominent grain pattern. Candlesticks were typically fitted with brass or copper nozzles at the top to safely hold wax tapers and prevent charring of the timber.

Authentic examples exhibit subtle hand-finishing marks, natural age-related colour variation, and genuine wear on the base. Original brass inserts often show light oxidisation and fit securely within the top joinery.

Position a pair on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or dining table alongside modern ceramics to create visual contrast. The warm timber tones integrate well with contemporary neutral paint palettes and natural stone surfaces.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a neutral beeswax polish annually to preserve the patination. Avoid placing wooden items adjacent to direct heat sources or strong sunlight, and clean brass inserts using a gentle non-abrasive metal cloth.
