A fabulous original Art Deco sparkling brooch in sterling silver studded with green, blue and white pastes. Beautifully made, it has delicate cut outs in a design of hearts and flowers. This is a really lovely quality piece and in excellent vintage condition.
The back is marked 935 with the letters KP crossed in a shield - the distinctive mark of the quality jewellers Knoll & Pregizer of Germany (described by one jewellery historian as ''the Cartier of German costume jewellers”), which traded from 1887 until well into the 20th century. Their handcrafted pieces are constructed in exactly the same way as pieces of fine luxury jewellery and were often bought in the 1930s and 40s by women who would regularly also wear top-end designers such as Van Cleef & Arpels and Cartier.
