A simply charming Elizabethan 16th century oak chest of wonderful rich colour and patina.
c1580-1600.
The profusely carved front with three applied arcaded panels, having fluted columns enclosing a holly wood inlaid lozenge.
Lunette carved top rail, retaining the original iron escutcheon, with guilloche carved bottom rail
Acanthus carved stiles and muntins.
The two plank top with nicely moulded edge opens to reveal the till, decorated entirely in hand block printed wallpaper.
Replacement hinges.
Very solid sturdy and strong. In excellent antique condition. Some original height lost to the feet.
