Stunning American Art Nouveau (early 20thc) Silver-encased Green Glass Vase, Alvin Corp
£750 $917 €889
Superb American Art Nouveau (early 20thC) silver-encased green uranium glass vase by the Alvin Corporation (Irvington, New Jersey, USA) decorated in silver with beautiful flower patterns. Hallmarked with Alvin Corp stamp, 999/1000 silver (the highest purity level), registered pattern no. G3362. 19cm diameter x 17cm tall, weight 2.15kg.
Good condition but crack on the base (but remains sturdy).
In 1886 Alvin patented a process for depositing pure silver on metallic and non-metallic surfaces. In this process the article was first coated with silver and afterwards a part of the coating was cut away, thus exposing the base, as in pierced work.
