Striking Carriage Clock by Joseph Soldano

19th century
Description

JOSEPH SOLDANO: a fine quality late 19th century French CARRIAGE CLOCK in superb original condition and perfect working order. The high quality “Corniche” case, with its bevelled glass panels and oval glass panel to the top, contains the precision 8-day movement which retains its original lever platform escapement. It strikes the hours and half-hours on a gong, and retains its original blued steel Breguet “moon” hands and perfect white enamel dial. The movement is numbered 7479, which is repeated on the original leather carrying case and the original winding key. The movement is signed, underneath the silvered platform: “SOLDANO”. Perfect working order and guaranteed for at least two years. Highly recommended.

** JOSEPH SOLDANO, a sought-after maker of fine Carriage Clocks, won Gold medals at the Paris Exhibitions of 1855 and 1878. It was noted at the time that his escapements were particularly fine, in all probability made for him in Switzerland. The well-known firm of Dent was a regular customer of Soldano in the 1860’s.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
