Condition / Servicing Note:

Please note that antique clocks are complex and sensitive mechanical objects. While some clocks may be running at the time of listing we cannot guarantee ongoing performance without a full inspection and testing period by our specialist horologist. Where inspection, testing, or servicing is required this process can take between 2–12 weeks depending on the clock, the work needed, and current workload. This careful approach helps ensure the clock is properly assessed rather than rushed.

Clock Warranty

All clocks purchased from London City Antiques are supplied with a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.

This warranty covers mechanical faults and failures arising from normal use. It does not extend to damage resulting from improper handling, unauthorised tampering, accidental or physical damage, environmental factors (including humidity, temperature fluctuations, or exposure to direct sunlight), or misuse.

Should a clock develop a genuine fault within the warranty period that meets the above conditions, we will, at our discretion and at no cost to you, arrange for the repair or replacement of any defective parts. All remedial work will be carried out by a fully qualified and experienced horologist.

In the unlikely event that a fault cannot be satisfactorily resolved, a full refund will be offered.

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian mantel clocks, produced between 1901 and 1910, typically feature lighter, Neoclassical revival designs compared to heavy Victorian predecessors. They frequently display satinwood or boxwood marquetry inlays, delicate floral swags, arched or circular cases, and brass fittings.

Clockmakers favoured fine hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, and satinwood for the cases. Decorative elements included boxwood stringing, bone or mother-of-pearl inlays, brass movements, and enamelled dials protected by bevelled glass crystals.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut marquetry inlays that are flush with the surrounding veneer, mechanical pendulum or lever escapement movements, hand-assembled brass components, and natural signs of age such as slight oxidisation on brass and subtle crazing in the wood varnish.

Position the timepiece as a focal point on a fireplace mantle, sideboard, or study desk. Pairing warm mahogany tones with neutral walls, minimalist ceramics, or contemporary artwork creates a balanced contrast between traditional craftsmanship and modern design.

Dust the wooden case regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, working with the grain. Keep the clock away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity to prevent the wood veneer from shrinking or cracking.
