1920 - 1940
For Sale by Art Deco World
Description

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a fabulous matching pair of modernist tables made by the highly regarded Hille furniture makers from the 1930's. Both tables are the same and really quite a rarity, more so as a pair, so rarely are these tables found. Both are original and made from blonde Walnut and are in fabulous condition having both been looked after over the years, they come without any damage or flaws to note. Both have been professionally re polished using traditional French polishing methods.

These tables start with a circular top sat upon a cylindrical base with a repeating under tier. These tables work beautifully together. Fantastic and very unusual pieces that won't disappoint.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

British Art Deco modernist design from the 1930s is characterised by clean geometric lines, stepped or tiered forms, and the innovative use of figured timber veneers. It moved away from heavy traditional ornamentation towards streamlined, architectural silhouettes that emphasised functional elegance.

Craftsmen commonly utilised solid wood frames covered in high-grade veneers such as burr walnut, sycamore, or birdseye maple. The multi-tiered construction featured angled bracket supports, architectural fins, and polished lacquer finishes to highlight the natural grain patterns.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-accurate construction, including original veneer joinery, natural timber ageing, and balanced geometric proportions. Makers marks or stamped paper labels under the base tiers often confirm origin and manufacturer.

These versatile pieces function effectively as sofa end tables, bedside stands, or architectural display pedestals. The open tiered design allows for layered styling with ceramics, glassware, and books alongside contemporary art pieces.

Keep timber furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer warping and bleaching. Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish occasionally to nourish the finish.
