Antique English Artist's Watercolor Box in Mahogany - Ackermann C.1890

Description

These highly sought-after artist's watercolour boxes are rarely found in anything rather than plain Mahogany, this one is nicely decorated with a central fan inlay and a single Boxwood inlay following the shape of the lid.

The front has a brass catch which is what is used to keep the box closed. The box opens to reveal a fully fitted interior and the inside of the interior lined with the retailers paper label, quite wonderful and highly decorative. The central cartouche reveals where this example comes from, R. Ackermann / Manufacturer of Supreme Watercolors / 191 Regent Street (London).

The watercolour tray is removable with space below to store tubes of paint, everything you see is included with the sale, what you see is what you get.

A really charming example in excellent condition. Measures 8" x 5 1/2" x 1 3/4" tall while closed.
