Chinese Porcelain Bombe Commode Bough Pot Qianlong

Description

This colourfully painted and gilded CHINESE PORCELAIN BOUGH POT, in the form of a BOMBE COMMODE, dates from the QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-95).

Bough Pots were used for growing bulbs without soil. After filling the pot with water, nearly to the top, the bulbs were rested in the openings in the top making sure they did not touch the water beneath. The roots would then start to sprout and eventually spread down into the water.

There is a small chip to the back bottom corner and a minor chip to the back top edge. Some rubbing to th gilt and minor pint loss. There is no restoration.
