Antique Rare 8 Inch Dial Fusee Mahogany Wall School Clock Butt Co Ltd , Chester

Description

This is a wonderful and superb quality antique 8 inch dial fusee mahogany wall clock and is signed 'BUTT & Co LTD, CHESTER'. The clock is of wonderful petite proportions and has a rare 8 inch dial. The movement to this clock is superb being CHAIN fusee. The case is mahogany which is a lovely rich colour` as can be seen from the photographs.

There is one BUTT of Chester listed in 'Clockmakers of Cheshire by Keith Appleby': 'BUTT. Francis. CHESTER Clock & Watchmaker. Eastgate Street Row 1865 - 92'.

The dial is marked out with Roman numerals, and has lovely shaped fingers. The dial is in lovely original condition. The bezel is brass.

There is a door to the base, which allows the pendulum to be hung and also a door to the side. These are complete with there original little catches which hold the door in place. The dial and movement are held in place with two wooden pegs.

The movement itself is a superb quality fusee movement. As can be seen from the photographs the movement is nice and clean and the clock is happily ticking away. The clock comes complete with it's pendulum and winding key. The backbox is nice quality also and has fine dovetail joints.

The approximate dimensions are:

- 11 inches (28 cm) diameter across the case

- 8 inches (20.5 cm) diameter across the dial

- 5 3/4 inches (14.5 cm) deep

CONDITION:

With regards condition, the clock is in superb condition, as can be seen from the photographs. Just minor marks commensurate with age and careful use. The dial is in lovely condition. The movement is lovely and clean and happily ticking away. Please study photographs carefully as they form part of the description and condition, as what you view is exactly what you will receive.
