£2,250    $2,809    €2,694
A superb example of a rare 19th century fitted Maplewood inlaid Games / Work table. The top laid out as a chess/draughts table with inlaid veneers of dark stained beech and elm for the chess squares, with a further mahogany veneered border around the edge. Two large decorative panels with floral inlays to either side of the board. The hinged lid lifts to reveal the fitted satinwood interior with a large variety of differing sized segmented storage areas. Two covered with lids and the four corner sections quartered by x-shaped dividers.

Further below is a fern green pleated silk covered and lined wool/silk storage drawer, with a recessed finger grip hidden under.

The whole unit is supported on beautifully carved maplewood lyre-shaped vertical legs/supports with a well-turned X-stretcher. There are coils and scrolls as well as acanthus leaf carving to the support and feet. These feet are in turn fitted with original brass castors.
