Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lyre clock is a style of timepiece designed in the architectural shape of a classical lyre instrument, prominent in late 18th-century France during the Louis XVI and Neoclassical periods. The design often incorporates a central dial framed by decorative uprights and surmounted by a sunburst mask or cresting.

These clocks typically feature carved statuary marble, alabaster, or cobalt blue porcelain bases paired with gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts. Dials are generally white enamel with hand-painted numerals, surrounded by beaded or rhinestone-set bezels.

Authentic period pieces exhibit heavy hand-chased gilt bronze mounts, fire-gilding wear, fine enamel dial artistry, and movement plates stamped with French maker marks or Paris exhibition awards. Construction details include hand-cut thread screws and solid marble components.

A lyre clock works best as a central focal point on a marble fireplace mantel, a library bookcase shelf, or an entryway console table. Placing it alongside subtle neutral ceramics or mirrored backdrops allows the ornate gilt bronze and marble details to stand out.

Dust ormolu mounts gently with a dry, soft brush, avoiding chemical liquid polishes that strip original gilding. Marble surfaces can be wiped with a damp cloth and mild soap, while mechanical clock movements require periodic oiling and professional horological servicing every few years.
