Description

DESCRIPTION:

This is an exquisite 8 Day bronze French ormolu and serves panels mantel clock. The serve panels are beautifully decorated with baskets of flowers, fruit and doves, and maidens. The dial is beautifully decorated with a cherub and instruments and is signed 'J. J. Peters & Co BRISTOL'. The serves panels are signed and we have taken a photgraph of the signature which appears below the close up of the dial.

This truly is a very high quality clock, a beautiful example of the best of mid-19th century craftmanship. The quality and detailing of the mounts is just superb as can be seen from the photographs. two doves with foliage and flowers sit on top of the clock, whilst to the centre of the clock case is adorned with flowers, foliage and swags and the base in flanked by maidens. The dial is beautifully decorated with a cherub and instruments and is signed 'J. J. Peters & Co BRISTOL'. The back also has a door convex glass that opens to access the movement and to allow for the pendulum to be hung.

The movement is an 8 day, striking once on the half hours and the hours. The back of the movement is numbered 2921, and stamped with the JAPPY FRERES & CIE EXPN 1835 GD MED. D'HONN stamp. The pendulum is also stamped 2921. Japy Freres et Cie were French clockmakers, originally set up in circa 1771 in Beaucourt by Frederic Japy (1749-1812) for the purpose of making ebauches (blanks) for watch movements. However, by 1809 the business was also producing clock movement blanks. By 1810, Frederic Japy's sons Frederic-Guillaume Japy, Louis-Frederic Japy and Jean-Pierre Japy had joined the firm. Soon after the death of of their father in 1812, the sons renamed the firm Japy Freres et Cie.

The clock comes complete with it's winding key and pendulum.

DIMENSIONS: The approximate MAXIMUM dimensions are: 10 1/4 inches / 26 cm wide x 5 1/2 inches / 14 cm deep x 14 3/4 inches / 37.5 cm high.

AGE: The clock is circa 1840.

CONDITION:

This truly is a stunning clock. The case is in superb condition as can be seen from the photographs just minor age marks commensurate with age. The movement is nice and clean and the clock is happily ticking and striking away and keeping good time. The dial is in nice condition. Please study photographs carefully as they form part of the description and condition, as what you view is exactly what you will receive.

This pretty bracket / mantel clock and it will grace any room where it is placed

This truly is a very high quality clock, a beautiful example of the best of mid-19th century craftmanship.
