Antique Inlaid Mahogany Longcase Grandfather Library Clock : Darling Edinburgh

DESCRIPTION:
 
This is an exquisite round faced eight day long case clock of pretty petite proportions. This type of clock is often referred to as a fine Library clock. The clock is absolutely perfect family looking for a clock to place straight into their home.
 
The case is wonderful made from superb mahogany with some exquisite fine inlays. The top has a pretty arch top which is finished with a pretty moulded cornice and a lovely shaped pediment to the centre. To either side of the hood is a circular glass panel which allows the movement to be viewed. The dial is surrounded by a cast brass bezel and is flanked to front corners with canted corners. There is also fine inlays to the corners below the dial and the hood has a lock and key fully working.
 
The trunk has a pretty full length door which is beautifully shaped to the top and has lovely fine inlays to the edge and lovely grain mahogany veneer to the centre of the door. Below the door has further fine shaped inlays. The door is flanked by quarter reeded columns. The base has a lovely frame of inlay and his raise an pretty shaped plinth base.
 
The movement is eight day duration rack striking the hours on a bell and is lovely and clean as it has been recently cleaned and serviced. The dial is a lovely round dial which is signed ‘ROBT DARLING EDINBURGH’. There is one Robert Darling of Edinburgh listed in ''Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World Volume 1 by G.H Ballie'': ''DARLING Robert. Edinburgh. 17888 - 1825''.
