DESCRIPTION:
This is fabulous antique Georgian oak and walnut cross banded longcase clock which dates to circa 1720 / 1740. The dial is signed ''Jno Salmon NANTWICH''. It has an eight-day movement on a square painted dial with a subsidiary second dial and date aperture. The clock is in perfect working order having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced. This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock to place straight into their home.
If we start with the hood, this has a flat top with deep moulding and a nice pediment. It is then nicely finished with three finials. Lovely full turned reeded columns flank the hood door which terminate in brass capitals, with simple back splats to the rear. The hood door has lovely mahogany cross banding to the inner edge.
If we then move down to the trunk this has beautifully shaped full-length door, which has been nicely cross banded in mahogany. The trunk door is then flanked by quarter reeded columns. The door also has a wonderful brass escutcheon.
The base has been cross banded in mahogany and has a lovely applied panel which has also been cross banded in mahogany. The base is raised on a ogee bracket feet.
The eight-day movement with makers name of ''Samuel Young NANTWICH'' striking the hour has a square brass dial. It also has a subsidiary second dial and date apperture. The four corners are adorned with beautiful maiden head spandrels. The dial is set out with Roman numerals with Arabic numerals above.
There is one ''Jno Salmon NANTWICH'' listed in ‘Clockmakers of Cheshire by Keith Appleby'' : ''SALMON. John. NANTWICH. Late 18th Century early 19th Century''.
