Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Egyptian Revival design emerged in Western Europe following Napoleons Egyptian Campaign of 1798 and resurged during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Decorative items incorporated ancient motifs such as sphinxes, obelisks, and lotus blossoms into functional household objects like cast iron doorstops and boot scrapers.

Antique boot scrapers were primarily manufactured using heavy cast iron or wrought iron, often set into stone bases or designed with self-contained drip trays. Cast iron allowed foundry workers to produce crisp, detailed relief mouldings and symmetrical sculptural elements.

Authentic nineteenth-century cast iron pieces typically display subtle mold seam lines, substantial physical weight, and natural surface oxidisation or historic paint layering. Original castings generally feature fine surface detail compared to modern reproductions, which often exhibit rougher finishes.

An antique cast iron boot scraper functions as a functional statement piece placed adjacent to a front door, porch, or garden entrance. In contemporary settings, it provides a historical contrast against clean masonry, timber decking, or tiled thresholds.

To preserve cast iron exposed to the elements, surface dirt should be removed with a stiff brush and mild soapy water. Applying a coat of clear microcrystalline wax or specialist iron paste prevents further moisture exposure and inhibits rust formation.
