Antique Victorian Sterling Silver & Glass Claret Jug - 1868

A lovely antique Victorian sterling silver and glass claret jug which has a tall plain glass body with star detailing and resting on a flat round base with star cut decoration. The elaborate silver mount is designed with fruit, leaves and Bacchus head motifs. The silver lid has the same fruit and leaf detailing with an impressive thumb piece depicting a lion in a standing position holding a shield. It has a good pouring spout and a substantial plain handle with a bead patterned band around the body for extra support. This silver claret jug is both practical and pleasing to the eye and would make a perfect addition to a collection. It will hold 950 ml of wine and remains in excellent condition.

It was hallmarked in London for 1868 by Robert Harper.
