Mytton Antiques - Jerrard Nares has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
The hinged lid with a brass shaped loop handle, centering the rolled paper decoration, as a petal head radiated toward leaves and flowers, the decoration banded with a border of further rolled paper and scrolling leaves. The edges of the lid with hanging flowers, looking toward leaf topped swags. The body with a central flower filled roundel, set around leaf quarters. The escutcheon set amongst scrolling and leaf decorated swags. The remaining sides decorated with rising flowers and leaves to each side. The whole set within satinwood banding/framing. The interior with a pair of tea compartments.
Complete with original working lock and key.
