A very rare Duesbury & Kean period Derby porcelain teacup and saucer c.1810. The bucket shaped cup with square handle, boldly decorated all over trompe l''oeil style with a deck of playing cards on a black ground, the centre with a duty card with the name WHEELER on the Teacup, the same pattern repated on the saucer but with the duty card with the name HUNT. Crown, crossed batons and D mark in red.
 
Playing card games was a popular pastime in the Georgian era. Favourite games were Whist, Cribbage, Piquet and Loo.
 
Condition. No damage or restoration to the saucer. A short hairline crack to the rim of the teacup has been invisibly restored.
