Samuel Colt invented the revolver in 1835 which featured at least one barrel and a revolving cylinder chamber containing multiple chambers, each holding one cartridge. When Colt began his quite aggressive marketing in Britain, local gunsmiths competed against these imports by producing their own revolvers, of which this is an early example. (No licence is required for this cased revolver, if possessed as a curiosity or ornament)
