Rare 19th C. French Palais Royal Gilt Glass Scent Bottle in Opaline Glass "Egg in Nest" Casket

Description

This is a rare and delightful 19th Century, French, Palais Royal, silver gilt and glass scent bottle contained in its egg-shaped casket box. The tear-drop shaped scent bottle with hallmarked silver gilt hinged lid, the slender sliced-cut body decorated with gilt stars. The neck with its original stopper. The scent bottle nestled in the original pink velvet receptacle. The white opaline egg casket with an ormolu hinge mount. The egg resting in a nest of gilt bronze wirework. The wirework frame raised on four legs. Exquisitely made.

Palais Royal is a term used to describe, not a single manufacturer, but to a name given to a small area around the Royal Palace that specialised in producing small elaborate works of art and gifts in the 18th and 19th centuries.
