This is an original oil painting on oak panel by an unknown Dutch artist, produced in a close “ manner “ and style to examples painted by artist Brekelenkemp during the 17th century, but has been painted by a follower of his style after the artists death and likely during the following 18th century.
 
 
Impressive work estimated 18th Century Oil Painting depicting a lady spinning wool, oil on oak panel mounted in later ebonised frame with gilt slip , bearing a label Verso dated 29.08.88 for Christies Amsterdam [ Cost €8200 Euros 32 Years Ago] this equated to £5300 back in 1988 ( exchange rate 1 EUR = 0.6513 GBP )
 
 
ABOUT
 
Quirijn or Quiringh Gerritsz van Brekelenkam (1622/29, Zwammerdam – 1669/79, Leiden),[1] was a Dutch Baroque genre painter. He probably studied under Gerard Dou, and as a result his paintings from the 1640s and 1650s are similar to those of the Leiden fijnschilders.
 
 
Walther Bernt writes about Brekelenkam: “His numerous depictions of workshops, kitchens and taverns have a distinctly individual style;

Fine quality painting, past full professional restoration.Frame having signs of old worm which has been long dead.Overall very good order in deed for over 200 years of age.
 
 
Highly collectable early art with the label as provenance by Christie’s that will only increase in value, a fine potential investment.
 
 
The last image is in black and white and has been specially lightened to allow the hidden detail to be more easily seen underneath the darkened areas.
