A superb late 19th-century Pietra Dura Mughal style paperweight with exotic hard stone samples and semi-precious stones, from Northern-India. It presents a radiating and calligraphic floral design with carnelian, lapis lazuli, malachite stones and mother of pearl shell on a white marble. There is a possibility that the paperweight was originally a box cover. However, the object has been used for many years as a paperweight.
