This is a small glass square-cased spirit decanter, mouth-blown by James Powell & Sons in the latter part of the 19th century, c1880.The decanter is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows some age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with use. The decanter has been blown in pale green lightly ribbed glass. The decanter measures 6.5 cm (2.6 inches) across at the base which carries the very neat polished out pontil mark associated with this maker. The decanter is 13.5 cm (5.4 inches) in height without the stopper, and 18.5 cm (7.4 inches) tall with the stopper inserted. The stopper is a flattened spire with embellishments and is almost certainly the original. The same stopper can be seen on a shaft and globe decanter from the same maker on page 74 of the book ''Whitefriars Glass James Powell & Sons of London'' by Wendy Evans, Catherine Ross and Alex Werner.
