English Bull Terrier, Original Etching

Description

A lovely original drypoint etching in colours by George Vernon Stokes depicting an English Bull Terrier and a Siamese cat. Signed in pencil lower right margin, numbered 36 from a world wide edition of only 75. George Vernon Stokes was born in 1873 and was a highly regarded artist of animals and natural history. Painting in oil, watercolour and pastel he was also a master of drypoint etching. He died in 1954. Examples of some of his works are held at The British Museum.

Excellent condition, conservation mounted. Overall mounted size 22 inches vy 18.5 inches. Image size 21cms x 28 cms approx.
