Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Apothecary jar table lamps originate from 19th-century chemist jars that stored medicinal herbs, powders, and ointments in pharmacies. In the mid-to-late 20th century, antiqurians and lighting makers began converting these earthenware and ceramic vessels into decorative electric lamps by adding brass mountings and wiring.

These lamps typically combine heavy glazed ceramic or porcelain bodies with cast brass collars, caps, and electrical fittings. The original vessels often feature hand-painted or gilt Latin inscriptions and are paired with tailored fabric shades.

Authentic pieces display Latin pharmaceutical abbreviations across the front of the body, subtle glaze crazing, and minor surface wear consistent with historical pharmacy use. Examining the base and brass caps often reveals where the vessel was converted for electrical wiring.

Positioning a symmetrical pair on a dining room sideboard, entry console, or large desk creates balance and visual interest. The deep cobalt tone contrasts effectively against light neutrals, natural timber surfaces, or dark painted walls.

Dust the ceramic bases regularly using a soft dry cloth, avoiding abrasive cleaners that could damage gilt inscriptions or glaze. Brass fittings can be wiped with a microfiber cloth, while fabric lampshades should be gently dusted with a soft brush.
