This is a very good, large, silver cigarette or trinket box, in Art Deco style, made by by E. and N. Speak, Birmingham in 1963. Unlike most other examples, this box has a heavy, solid silver lid, which has an engine-turned border and thumb catch. The border is also repeated on the inside edge. The wooden interior has an adjustable centre partition. This useful piece is refreshingly plain, with no personal monograms or other engravings. The hinge is robust, in excellent working order and the box closes properly. With no damage or repairs and only minimal signs of use, it is in very good antique condition. The hallmarks are crisp and clear.
